The blade of the JKD is a wicked double-edged trailing point design. A full 5-1/2 inches long, it is carefully hollow ground to achieve the optimum balance between good edge geometry and a strong central spine and tip. It also features a black epoxy coating for a low-profile appearance.
The JKD's handle is of full-tang construction and consists of two thick slabs of contoured G-10 secured to the tang with Torx screws. Two subtle finger grooves flow gracefully into an integral guard at the ricasso, and the tang features a series of well-placed grooves for the index finger and thumb to help provide a secure grip. The full tang of the blade extends nearly 1-1/4 inches beyond the handle at the butt and tapers to a nasty skull-crusher pommel. The back surface of the tang near the butt also boasts a series of grooves. These provide a convenient thumb rest when the knife is held in reverse grip and traction for hooking and passing an opponent's limbs when the knife is held in a standard grip.
