Arts and Entertainment has created a new version, starring Rick Schroeder as Major Whittlesey. The "Making of the Lost Battalion" is showing Sunday, November 18th and Sunday, November 25th, both from 2:00 to 2:30 PM Eastern Time (ET). The Lost Battalion movie itself is showing December 2nd and 8 PM ET. The movie is repeating regularly, so click the box above for the most recent schedule. You can purchase a VHS or DVD copy from A&E. |

Library of Congress has only three of 8 reels, but there are copies floating around somewhere! A silent film (like all of that time), it includes actual WWI footage from the Signal Corp as well as "new" footage of the Lost Battalion survivors. The majority of the movie, though, is enacted by established actors and actresses of their time, including what might have been the last performance by Bessie Learn. The footage is shot, I beleive, at the actual locations of Camp Upton and the Pocket. |
