"A Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) uses his or her nursing experience and knowledge of legal issues to assist attorneys in preparing cases relating to healthcare issues. Legal Nurse Consultants are heavily involved in educating attorneys and others involved in the legal process regarding the healthcare facts and issues of a case or a claim. Legal Nurse Consultants work with legal teams to review, summarize, and analyze medical records and other pertinent healthcare and legal documents. They conduct research and integrate healthcare and nursing literature, guidelines, standards, and regulations with the case or claim. In addition to drafting legal documents in medically related cases in collaboration with an attorney, Legal Nurse Consultants can testify at depositions, hearings, arbitration, or trials as expert healthcare witnesses in accordance with state regulations. The primary role of the Legal Nurse Consultant is to evaluate, analyze, and render informed opinions on the delivery of health care and the resulting outcomes. Given their specialized education and clinical expertise, Legal Nurse Consultants are a unique and valuable member of the litigation team."
